Christmas in Polignano a Mare begins as early as November. The opening of one of the most awaited events of the year is scheduled for 16:30 on Saturday, November 30, the day when the artist lights will be illuminated for the first time. At the same time, the market stands will open, set up with local hndcrafted products and original Christmas gift ideas. Santa Claus will be ready to welcome the children with their requests in his house, while the ice rink will activate for those who want to taste new emotions on the ice.
Artist Lights in Polignano a Mare
The Lights of Polignano a Mare are a great attraction for Christmas 2019. A Christmas now famous all over Italy, and beyond. The old town is transformed into a unique, fairytale Christmas village. What makes the whole event special are precisely the lights scattered around the main streets of Polignano a Mare. Not simple lights, but real artistic works made by one of the specialized and renowned factories in its sector: Meta Lux of Roccasecca (FR). The artistic ligths that give life to fairy-tale characters, cute animals and ornaments of all kinds, are designed by the Meta brothers and their father in their craft workshop. Bright decorations of all sizes and colors, subjects in 3D with glowing lights, will grace the sky and streets of Polignano a Mare transporting visitors into an enchanted world.
Tributes to Domenico Modugno and Pino Pascali
Walking through Via Roma and raising your eyes to the sky, you can read the sparkling words of “Nel blu dipinto di blu”, the Domenico Modugno's most famous song, in the lights.
A bright guitar emerges just a short distance from the sea to continue to remember this great singer-songwriter of Italian music.
And finally, in correspondence with Lama Monachile, one of the most beautiful beaches of Polignano a Mare, you can admire the luminous representation of Pino Pascali's best-known work: the tail of a cetacean.

Christmas markets in Puglia. Polignano a Mare comes alive with celebration
For its duration, "In the blue painted lights" will see Polignano a Mare come alive with its Christmas markets that will fill the central part of the city. In Piazza Aldo Moro you can visit the stands set up by the best factories of typical Puglian products, while for those looking for tempting Christmas and handcrafted items you can find them in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele and in Piazza San Benedetto. The market will be open from 1st to 20h December on weekdays from 4.30pm until midnight and on weekends and holidays from 10am to 1pm and from 4.30pm until closing. Tourists who want to visit the stands from December 21 to January 6 can do so daily from 10a to 1pm and from 4.30pm until midnight. Every Sunday and public holidays, in via Martiri di Dogali and via Pompeo Sarnelli, a long craft path will develop with engaging visual workshops.

In the exhibition, there are the works created by young artists from Puglia in mosaic, textiles and ceramics, together with those one of their Greek colleagues, in an extraordinary artistic exchange. On Sunday, December 1, the festivities for Santa Barbara will take place with a procession that will start from the Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano accompanied by a band concert that will reach, crossing the city, the Monumento ai Caduti del Mare, in Largo Gelso .
