Matera 2019 kicked off its long programming last January 20th, with a ceremony followed throughout Italy. On that occasion, Circus +, an extraordinary circus show, enchanted viewers with truly amazing performances. After that date, Circus + returns to Matera from February 14th and lasted for five weekends, intriguing all kinds of spectators, from young to adults.

Circus +, performance never seen in Southern Italy

Matera 2019 will host Circus + in the park of the Tramontano Castle where you can watch performances never seen in South Italy staged by artists from all over the world. To perform more than ten circus companies arriving in the Lucanian county not only from Italy, but also from Morocco, France, Turkey, Belgium, Germany, Japan, Kenya, bringing to Matera the best of the contemporary European circus.

Five acts for Circus +

In Circus + of Matera 2019 you will be able to have fun thanks to engaging circus shows, meetings with artists, moments of entertainment for the youngest and all the magic of Nouveaucirque. A real and exciting journey in the world of circus art divided into five acts that follow the themes of the dossier of Matera 2019. Each appointment is built on the link between the theme, the poetic of the artists and the spectators, with the circus closer to the theatre, the dance and the performative arts.

How to access Circus +

You can access Circus + using your Passport to Matera 2019, with the opportunity to participate in the many contemporary circus shows in which famous artists such as Flavia Mastrella and Antonio Rezza, Phiamenard of Compagnie non Nova, Jörg Müller, Ziyaazazi and many others, will alternate. Each day will be divided into two different schedules, the Grand Chapiteau, with obligatory access on reservation, and the Petit Chapiteau with free admission until the availability of seats (maximum 250).
